LES VILLAS DU COTEAU
LUTRY, Suisse · 2023
Two contemporary villas, one topography, two architectural responses.
Set on a sloping site in the canton of Vaud, the project takes its main constraint as its starting point: a north-to-south gradient combined with a pronounced cross-slope towards the west. Rather than being treated as a limitation, the topography becomes the guiding principle of the design, defining a distinct organisation for each of the two villas.
Access from the upper part of the site leads to two different configurations.
To the west, the villa follows the natural slope of the land. The living spaces are located on the upper level and extend directly outdoors onto a generous terrace and infinity pool. On the lower level, the bedrooms open onto a second, more private area of the garden.
To the east, the relationship with the terrain is expressed differently. The living spaces are positioned on the lower level to benefit from a direct connection with the garden and swimming pool. From the entrance on the upper floor, a large central staircase structures the heart of the house and creates a strong connection between the two levels. The bedrooms open onto a continuous balcony offering panoramic views over Lake Geneva and the Alps.
The two villas share a common architectural language: concrete structures, external insulation, large full-height glazed openings, timber cladding and green roofs.
